What is a mentor and the benefits of having one? We'll go over a few other questions to help you decide if getting a mentor is right for you. Keep reading...

I want to start with a quote:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“What you want in a mentor is someone who truly cares for you and who will look after your interests and not just their own. When you do come across the right person to mentor you, start by showing them that the time they spend with you is worthwhile.” —Vivek Wadhwa⠀⠀

Let’s talk about this. What are your thoughts about having a mentor?
In this case, we are talking about a Virtual Assistant mentor. Here are some questions you should ask yourself when deciding to work with a mentor.
What is a mentor?
According to Webster’s dictionary, a mentor is "an experienced and trusted adviser". Mentors provide experience and advice you can trust. To put it plainly, a mentor is someone who has agreed to take you under their wing and guide you, rather than coach you. There is a significant difference between a mentor and a coach, which I'll talk about in another post. In this case, a mentor should not be confused for a coach. With that being said, let's learn what the role of a mentor actually entails.
What does a mentor do?
Mentoring can be a powerful personal and professional development tool that can help you achieve or exceed your life's goals and aspirations. A mentor can be a sounding board, someone to bounce ideas off, your voice of reason so to speak, they are around for emotional support, provide counsel and trusted resources.
A mentor is a great way to get where you need to be in your personal or professional life in half the time!
Who can be a mentor?
A mentor can literally be your mom or dad, someone you look up to as a trusted friend, role model or coach. Since we are talking about the virtual assistant industry, a mentor should be someone who works and understands how the Virtual Assistant industry works and help navigate you through your VA business and help you excel faster.
To illustrate: think of a mentor as an airplane or train. Both vehicles are built on speed. You could get there by boat or bike, or you could hitch a ride on the fast plane or train with someone who knows where to go, what to expect and will get you there faster than you could if you were to go at a slower pace by boat or bike and by yourself.
If you know such a person why not ask them to mentor you.
Who would benefit greatly having a mentor?
Let me tell you why you would. A trusted mentor can help you do the following:
Gain valuable knowledge and experience
Offer valuable advice and insight into what it takes to get ahead in life or business
Reduce stress and anxiety
Be your biggest cheerleader
Have a vested interest in your future. If you succeed they succeed.
A mentor also get to profit off of your success by sharing proven results of the work that they’ve done with you. Knowing this, your mentor won’t fail you when they have a lot riding on their own success as well.
What can a mentor help you do that you otherwise can't do on your own?
A mentor has taken the road you’ve taken and has already done the work. They can warn you of the pitfalls to avoid and which path not to take to save you time and headaches.
One of the things I admired most about my mentor, was the level of communication she operated on. When she spoke people listened. A mentor can help improve your communication skills too. Whether it be in person or on a livestream, I’ve learn to communicate more effectively.
Communication is a great skill a mentor can continue to help you at work.
The big quiestion is: do you have or need a mentor?
Need a mentor?
