How to Build an Email List and Automate Your Email Marketing

Myth: I don't need an email list to grow my business.

Newsflash! Yes you do.

On October 4, 2021, both Instagram and Facebook shutdown for half a day leaving their users stunned. For businesses who rely on social media to make money, some lost billions of dollars that day.

All because they depend on their followers to buy from them on these platforms. On that day, social media prove to be unreliable.

However, if all of these platforms disappeared today, how would you communicate with your customers and clients or potential buyers you "used to" follow on social media?

The one thing we don't want to do is rely on social networks to sell our services and products. We have our own network which often gets neglected.

What network is that?

That network happens to be your email marketing system and client relationship management system! Tap into your own network the next time social media goes down.

Your CRM system goes hand in hand with your Email Marketing System. Except, your email marketing system can automate your emails and save you time and energy.

What is Email marketing?

Email marketing is basically sending a commercial message, typically to a group of people, using email. Every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. You can use email to send advertisements, request business, make sales or solicit donations. As a Virtual Assistant, your email marketing strategy should seek to achieve one or more of these primary objectives: 1) to build loyalty 2) to build trust 3) to brand awareness

What is the primary goal of email marketing?

The goal should be to send email messages with the purpose of enhancing your relationship with current or previous clients, encouraging customer loyalty and repeat business, acquiring new customers or convincing current customers to purchase something immediately, and sharing third-party offers. How serious are you about taking your business to the next level so you can actually meet your income goals this year? You are going to book no less than one client per month if you do this work. Let's get to it... Ask yourself: 1. What do you do with all of the names, phone numbers and emails of the people you come in contact with on a daily basis? 2. What do you do with all of the leads you receive at your networking events? 3. What do you do with leads that reach out to you through your website and social media platforms? They should be in your CRM System or database.

What is a CRM system or database?

Your “Database” is a collection of people you know or they know you. This includes the following: Your friends Your family Your classmates Your neighbors Your kid’s friends parents (if you have kids) LOL!! You can find most of these people in your personal contacts, right? What about... Your past clients Your prospects Your Facebook’s friends Any social media connections This is the list you need to build if you don’t have these in your database.

How do you build a list?

I currently use three different platforms to build my database. Those platforms are, Google forms and my own website on Wix which features a built in Email Marketing System and CRM Tools.

Our email account is where most of us have our database stored because it is what we use to send emails to clients, business contacts and leads. What your email account does not do is send out an email drip campaign so you can stay connected with your clientele and leads.

Why is it so important to build an email list?

It’s super important to stay connected to your circle and anyone inquiring of your business. People can forget what you do or they don’t completely understand what you offer. When you market this database on a consistent basis, also known as referral marketing, your market becomes your audience. Your audience can send you referrals and repeat business because you are staying at the top of their minds, not only through social media but in their email inbox as well. There is gold in list building.

What type of marketing should I focus on?

Email marketing and referral marketing are two of the best ways to build a relationship with your audience out of your current connections and making sure your name remains at the top of their minds and in front of that audience so that you are thought of whenever a virtual assistant comes to mind. You want to be the first person they think of contacting! If you connect with your audience consistently through email or social media and share content with your market, you will be more likely to get their business and referrals when the opportunity comes. This is not an option.
